So much awe under the double sunset arch

September 20th, Day 99

Wow wow wowww Donegal in the tropical sun is so dreamy. Amazing day and have been able to eat lately and stay hydrated just fine. Such a lovely sunrise over my tent in my cozy rock spot close to the water. Left Gola and made progress towards Owey. I had read about this island over the winter so I was excited to see the caves. It wasn't until I got there however that I realized the cave systems within the island had tight corners, and that makes me nervous when there's a bit of swell. So I didn't actually end up going into many, just one that was an in and out situation with the growling booming in the back that the caves do. I went around the backside and the lumpy excited sea was alive and crashing against the gorgeous cliff walls. It was one of those situations where you look quick at the rocks, then right back at the sea coming at you back and forth so you don't get caught off guard. Circled back around and the wind was behind me so I shot down to Aranmore where I got water from the pub on the beach, had lunch and was off again. A lovely spot. The few regulars in the pub gave me the normal "what's going on here" questions and admiration while my water was being filled.

Carried on to cross over towards Portnoo but saw a sea arch on the map and decided to check that out, and wow am I glad that I did. The arch that is on google maps is fine and great and you can see it from land so that's why it's a location. So I got there and went through it, circled around and did it again. There were some guys with big cameras taking pictures of me so I'd say that they enjoyed that. Went just 30 meters towards where my crossing would be and oh my gosh the arches there were even better. There were two big arches to go through and the sunset glow was shining bright through them, beaming towards me. What an incredible sight. The bigger one had a sea stack behind it, so it just made for a stunning view all together. Today was totally a day of - this is why I wanted to paddle around Ireland! Ah just amazing. Once I had floated and taken a happy selfie, I started my flat calm sunset crossing to Inishkeel Island. It was just wonderful. Looked for a spot when I got here, beach wasn't the best but that's okay, found a spot close to the high tide line to set up and made home. The damp came quick as it does in the evenings sometimes, and it's definitely colder these days.
