Into Belmullet Channel, pain starting in my abdomen
September 28th, Day 107
Woke up early and was able to get on the water around 9:30. Feeling a little better today and the wind wasn’t too bad. Set off and made it around the corner towards what actually was Belmullet sound/channel. Watching the swell build again and concentrating on watching that rising feeling of a wave again. Past the lighthouse of Erris head I believe and into the more protected sound, but the wind started to pick up against me and I felt a dull pain building in my abdomen. It kindof feels like maybe I pulled a muscle during the capsize? But it hurts in the front right side just under my rib. In pain and mentally tired I stopped early but at least I’m set up now to shoot down the channel towards Achill in the next couple days. A friend of a friend contact came to get me, her name is Niamh and she paddles and lives on the island. We put my stuff in her car and wheeled the boat to a nearby garden for safe keeping. She took me to the interpretive center for the Iniskees where Fergus works who I was going to stay with. That’s been the continuous beauty of this trip, that everyone knows someone so I was put in touch with Fergus and here we are. We all had a coffee and then he drove me to his house then went back to work. I’ve just been exhausted so today I maybe should have checked out the info center but I was falling sleep hard at the cafe so I just really needed a nap. Slept hard for a couple hours and then Fergus came home. We had a Chinese and chatted and then back to bed for me. I wish I could have been myself a little more with him but to be honest my spirit is just feeling a little different at the moment. I’m fearing the water and I’ve never had that feeling before. Weather is poor again tomorrow so it will be nice to have some more rest. Hoping the pain in my abdomen will subside.
