I can’t feel my leg

July 16, Day 32

Well I woke up this morning and I couldn’t really feel my upper leg. My hamstring and glute were almost totally numb and tingling and when I was walking around, it was painful like I had pulled something. I made some calls to my support network and everyone was so willing to help, I know I can always count on them. We came to the conclusion that I needed to see a physio or osteopath sooner rather than later and that I need to evaluate why this is happening in the first place in terms of my alignment while sitting and paddling. I mean in the end of the day, I am sitting and using my upper body and back for 6-8 hours of the day almost every day. I haven’t had a rest day since the copper coast as well, I’ve been going for 10 days, which is another factor. So I went on a walk with the Dutch guy, Simon and we went to the shop for some food bits in the village. When we got back we had a coffee from the coffee truck at the camp site. It was so nice to chat to someone near my age in a real and candid way. Eventually he was on his way on his bike trip and I finished packing up my stuff and set off. Day started with most my leg being asleep in the boat and just like a dead leg, very asleep in sensation. I just need to make it across the bay to Kerry. It eventually started to feel a little better but mostly just hurts now. It feels like I have stressed a muscle and it’s affecting my circulation. I made it to Kerry though! It’s just so stunning. I met the people who own the water sports rental place to keep my boat at while I’m away and had a beer with them. Set up my tent and have physio tomorrow, just have to get the bus there.
