Headwinds to Oysterhaven
July 6th, Day 22,
More headwind today, paddled for 6 hours into a force 4, but most of the time gusting a 5. Just annoying and it makes it easy to think about the things that piss me off about this trip. Testing to the mind, and spirit. First enjoying a really lovely slow and sunny morning as everyone was on a Saturday morning. Really enjoyed my coffee and making my sandwich and all that in my tent with both flaps open to get some cool air. Got lots of sleep too. Got to Oysterhaven and stored my boat there for the night and am staying with Padraig and his wife.
I used to race with Padraig on his beautiful green 40 foot sailboat in Kinsale. Really sweet to see him again, he’s remembered almost everything I told him about my life back in 2019 when I was here. He’s a dairy farmer and is about to retire. His dairy goes into the melting pot that is gorgeous Kerry gold butter and other products. His wife made an incredible steak dinner with peas, carrots and new potatoes from down the road. The potatoes are a bit late this year but these ones were just divine. A very nice end to the day.
