Downwind day through Belmullet and Achill Sound
September 30th, Day 109
Today actually turned out to be great, such a productive day and made great distance. Felt a bit more normal. Up early from Fergus’ house to go back to the boat in the garden, brought it down to the beach and the channel was giving such a nice foggy glow, even though it was raining a bit. I set off again and things felt good but I could still feel that same tug of abdominal pain. Around the corner to Belmullet where Niamh was waiting to take my picture going under the bridge and back into the shallow bay with wind waves kicking up behind me. Nice downwind day which was good, it makes such a difference on miles when the wind is behind me. Had a bit of a pee brake at the start of Achill sound and then shot right through Bulls Mouth into the sound. Wind and tide behind me what a dream. Then under the bridge, fun again, where the tide can meet in the middle and out again towards the RNLI station where I got off the water just past it and another friend of a friend picked me up. 29 miles went by so fast. Mick and his wife and family are so lovely and they are a musical family so they played some things on the concertina and guitar and tin whistle and we had hot whiskeys. So nice.
